The honeybee has played an important role in human lives for thousands of years. "Api" meaning bee and "therapy" meaning treatment is a form of alternative medicine in which the products from the honey bee are used to treat a variety of medical conditions and promote positive health. Learn about the most commonly used bee products: raw honey, royal jelly, pollen, propolis, beeswax and bee venom. All workshop participants will make and take home a propolis tincture or wound dressing and workshop handouts. Queen Rearing Workshop: Covers queen production, mating nucs and re-queening. This workshop provides an opportunity to consider the effects of agri-chemicals - on consumers, farmers, farms, and the environment. Learn how to take care of your flower, fruit and vegetable gardens without the use of harmful chemicals. This workshop is suitable for youth looking to extend their focused studies as well as gardeners who are looking for alternative gardening methods. All workshop participants will take home an organically grown potted plant and an organic gardening handouts. Pollination 101 What do birds and bees have in common? They can both pollinate! During this workshop Dr Bee will be talking about various forms of pollination. Long story short, for a plant to produce seeds, pollination must take place. Dr Bee will show how pollen can be transferred from one flower and placed on the pistil of another flower. Although the focus of this workshop will be on insect pollination, there are two other ways in nature that pollination can also take place: with the aid of wind and self-pollination.
